Vintage Magazine: House Beautiful, June 1969

I've decided to resurrect an unfortunate but short-lived trend; indoor / outdoor carpeting. Envision it on a grey, rainy day with all of the patio furniture put away. The interference with the landscape was extreme. Plus, the 'carpet' was squishy & soggy. If God had intended the ground to be turquoise, etc.

Don't they look plastic?

I don't remember it. People used it for patios? It seems impractical to clean, concrete is better.
I must say, though, the turquoise looks spanky and is tempting.

Man trying to trump nature....with color. How stupid we are.(personally, my favorite is the red)

The color in these pictures reminds me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Willy Wonka or Mary Poppins.
Wonder whether people were supposed to vacuum this carpet?

Oh no, not unless you had a shop vac (were those even around then?) -- I imagine a really stiff broom. Women didn't work in those days...it could just be another one of those "daily chores". Oh wait, these houses were made to have MAIDS! You do have to hand it to the designers back in that day...they were bold! Way better than the whole "beige" thing.

They were bold. I actually like the way things look in the pictures - kind of exciting - red grass/plastic carpeting.
But I remember the reality.
