Just hanging out with my dog...

Just kidding. I've been hanging out with my oversized vintage knitting pattern collection. I've been re-organizing it, one decade per magazine box. The 1950s, 60s, & 70s each have three boxes; that should give some idea of the scope of this collection. I have to save these from - ? something. I don't buy many new knitting magazines (only Interweave Knits, & not every issue) & other rationalizations. Today I came up with some duplicates & several pattern books I think I can part with. So I have a little stack here; just need to decide what to do with them. I do this every so often. I used to trade them for others at Vintage Knits. There one can scroll through hundreds of vintage pattern books, organized by decade & type of pattern. Laurie Kynaston is very friendly & easy to work with. I haven't visited her website for a while & now there is an easy to use shopping cart & checkout...in addition to the pattern books Laurie has compiled a database of discontinued yarns.

Ohh....I just love the look of this vintage pattern book (and vintage patterns in general). Have you made anything from a vintage pattern? Can you get the pattern to work with today's sizes? Thanks for the website link!

I get endless enjoyment out of looking through vintage pattern books. Particularly the ones from the 50s & 60s. I have knit a few sweaters from them, a couple for me & several for my kids when they were littler. Fitting myself has been trickier & most of the patterns need some little adjustment - sleeve length is an obvious & easily corrected one.
