A Goal:
~ to improve my etsy shop photos.
1) Lighting; I'm completely at the mercy of the ambient light. There are times when I cannot get a good result.
2) Backgrounds; I'm not always satisfied with my backgrounds at this point because they're too varied. The overall look of my etsy page may be good one day, not so good on another.
3) Composition; When taking pictures I need to be mindful of the fact that the pictures will be most often seen in thumbnails (square).
Since I make a variety of items which aren't always cohesive; the photos need some thread of consistency for the entire page to look good. This seems like the most difficult task.

Actually, I have always thought the lighting was good in your pictures!
You might talk to Erin P. She's really generous with advice. Jen L. and Suzanne have taken some classes, too.
You know my cool red chair? The vinyl ripped on the side. (I almost commited Hari-Kari over it.) What's the best way to repair a slit like that? (Sorry to use your blog for advice, but I'm thinking you go here more than email)

Carolyn: Thanks! If the light is good, I can get a good picture...but oftentimes I have to wait for the light to be right & waiting doesn't always work.
M;that's a good idea - I will ask them!
I don't have any great news re: ripped vinyl. There are repairs, but as far as I know they can't take any stress without tearing again. I have a great footstool with a split all the way across now & foam slowly trailing out. I wonder how expensive it is to reupholster? There are classes where one takes their upholstery project & completes it over the course of the class. How's that for an idea? hehe.
Photo taking is so hard. Just today I got out my tripod to attempt better photo taking. For me, having a photostudio program in the computer really helps undo the messes I make in the pictures.
Good goals Jennifer.
I am currently searching for more things to use as backgrounds. I'm trying for a circus-ish whimsical theme--lots of fun colors and polkadots. I just bought this lovely vintage circus horse with a cute dog sitting on the horse--it will for sure be included in the photos. I have no clue as to how to take good photos in bad weather when the sun is gone.
*frown* Can we make a trip to winco and Michael's this week?
Jenny: What photo editing program do you have? I just have what came in the computer - not too extensive, but it helps.
Sadie: Your photos are great! You're so good at setting the mood - & I LOVE your colors -
